Whitwell who practiced with Guy Dawber in London came to Ambleside to settle and contructed his family home using conventional Lakeland stone on the solid rock of Nanny Brow.
The house is an Arts and amp Crafts gem contructed in 1904 by the distinguished architect Francis Whitwell FRIBA.
