THE GEORGE is an inn with history serving its first customers from 1789 .
A victim of the devastating floods of 1953 home to the inaugural meeting of the Norfolk Naturalist Trust and a focal point for bird watchers for many years thanks to its bird bible it sits imposingly over the salt marshes looking out toward Blakeney Harbour.
No wonder so many people are enchanted by this stretch of coastline.
Here at Cley-next-the-Sea with it s narrow roads no street lights and a conventional red phone-box you will find a most beautiful idyllic north Norfolk brick and flint village that is bursting with character and filled with local culture.
Tranquility is on the doorstep thanks to the huge skies acres of colourful salt-marsh and mile-upon-mile of un-spoilt beaches that are also a haven for wildlife.
Dogs are welcome in the drinks bar and front restaurant (we keep the back restaurant dog free) we have a great kiddies menu and on the cold Autumn/ winter days we have a roaring open fire going to warm up the cockles of your heart.
We serve 4 local ales which keeps the beer connossieur happy and of course our cellar is cask marque rated.
Our restaurant was renovated in April 2014 and locally we have developed a good reputation for locally sourced food with an interesting and varied menu with daily specials.
On the first floor rooms 3 4 and 5 are particularly spacious with breathe taking views over the marshes towards Blakeney Point.
All the guestrooms on the first and second floor have all been newly renovated with new bathrooms installed.
