Being one of only five properties in this small hamlet on a table of land some 1300 feet above ocean level The Barrel Inn proudly claims to be the highest public house in Derbyshire.
The existing Inn dates back to the 17th century but in medieval times the house was a popular calling place for the salt carriers en route from Cheshire to the township of Sheffield and its Castle.
We are more than happy however for well behaved pet dogs to sit with owners on the outdoor front terrace and really enjoy our most beautiful views.
Please note that unfortunately we are unable to accommodate pets inside The Barrel Inn with the exception of guide pet dogs whether in the drinks bar region or within our accommodation.
With five super luxury en suite bathroom guestrooms we offer the ideal location for a relaxing holiday break and an excellent base for those spending time on holiday walking or cycling through the most beautiful Peak District with each room being furnished to a high standard to ensure your visit is comfortable.
Seating on the front terrace on good days is very popular whilst relaxing having a drink and something to eat.
Old worldly charm - peaceful oak-beamed drinks bar real log fires flagstone flooring beamed ceilings and polished copper and brass - have all been retained to enhance the overall charm and friendliness of the Inn.
The public house serves a fine choice of well kept real ales fine wines and delicious freshly cooked mostly locally sourced food every day.
Its panoramic views of the majestic Hope Valley and the Peak District National Park are breathe taking and on a clear day you are able to really enjoy views over five counties.
