Roos is located 12 miles east of hull and two miles from the nearest beach. The Roos Arms has a proud history of hostelry since the 16th century. The Roos Arms serves locally sourced and freshly cooked food with cask ales along with lagers and ciders. The Roos arms bears the coat of arms of the Barony de Ros which is one of the oldest titles in England and depicts Gules three water-bougets argent . Whilst Roos is a very pleasant and somewhat typically sleepy village in the heart of Holderness in the East Riding of Yorkshire there are a few notable facts: The Grenwich Meridian crosses the coast just to the East of Roos The parish church of All Saints is a grade 1 listed property J.R.R Tolkien lived in Roos from which he is reputed to have drawn inspiration for The Lord of The Rings.
