The Brooking Room with its hand made oak king size four poster guest bed and luxurious bathroom is the original master bedroom.
Guests are welcome to make full use of the garden which features two ponds an ancient well and a large guest swimming pool which is heated in the summer months.
Bulleigh Barton is located in a sheltered valley with extensive views across the garden and the surrounding countryside.
The house stayed in the family for 200 years and has been visited by some of Thomas Brooking s descendants in recent times.
It is said that Thomas moved to the clean air of Bulleigh Barton to escape the plague which was raging in Totnes.
The purchaser Thomas Brooking son of the Mayor of Totnes was a wealthy merchant.
The earliest records we have been able to find show that it was sold by the Estate in 1688 possibly to pay off civil war debts.
It is thought that the current property which was originally a farm house dates back to the 1400s and was part of the Compton Castle estate.
There was a house noted on this site in the Doomsday book.
The house has a long history.
Evening meals are available by prior arrangement and for those who really enjoy eating out there is a good choice of local public houses and restaurants in the area.
