The Allan Ramsay Hotel est. 1792 is one of Scotland s oldest coaching inns. His son also called Allan Ramsay was the world-renowned royal portrait painter. Gardens Edinburgh. He is credited as having the first lending library in Britain and his statue can be found in Princes St. The hotel is named in honour of Allan Ramsay the well known Scots poet whose many works depicted rural life of the area. The drinks bar is one of the few remaining penny bars a drinks bar top decorated with old one penny coins some featuring Queen Victoria and has a large open fireplace. The hotel retains much of its 18th century character with antique decorations a charming dining room with the original fireplace and a small library. It has 4 comfy ensuite guestrooms on the upper floor which offer single double twin or family occupancy and a 3 bedroom apartment (sleeps 8) alongside.
